My run was good this morning. Thanks, andrea for the caloric advice. As I have mentioned before, I am not much of an eater and this training has a two fold purpose for me–to teach me how to fuel my body properly then do something challenging with it. After my run, I let my ferrets out to play. I was stretching and they were dooking around me. The wind blew the door open and one of my girls ran outside. She promptly went under the porch and returned with a glazed look in her eye. I picked her up and started wiping her off–something had bitten her (I’m thinking black widow spider). The ‘venom’ or toxin was still on her fur and I wiped it with my hands. After I set her down she just lay there. I threw on a robe (I am still sopping wet and it is cold and windy outside) and drove like a mad woman to the vet (10 miles away). As I was driving, I lost all feeling and muscle control in my hands. My fingers were retracting into my palms and knotting up. I couldn’t steer or shift. I was in a state of panic. I was looking at my poor Arwen and she lay limp in my lap. I felt dizzy and was about to pass out. I made it to the vet barely. They put her under oxygen and gave her an anti venom shot. I, on the other hand, was in dire straits for about 10 minutes before the sensations passed. Has anyone ever been bitten by a black widow? Could it have been something else? After I calmed down I walked next door to the gas station to buy some chocolate milk–in my bathrobe and running shoes! lol My hands still feel funny but I am ok. At least they work, I am typing. As a side note, the name “Drizzt” in my blog title is in honor of my first ferret who died in the fall of lymphotic cancer at the age of 7. I love fuzzies and now have two, Pei-Pei and Arwen. Any ferret lovers out there??

I would assume that you are a Lord of the Rings fan with the name of Arwen. I used to have 2 ferrets but actually my love was for my 6 pet Iguana’s which all were over 4ft in length. I too used to let them run and play outside. I was always scared of stuff like this. I hope that your fuzzy friend Arwen is okay.
