I have been “training”now for 8 weeks.  I have gone from running maybe 4 miles per week to averaging 20 miles per week.  I have increased my body mass, speed, endurance , etc.  and have gotten faster, stronger.  I am happy with my results but want more.  I feel like this is all my body can do but I want more.  Maybe the curve slows down once you finally get in shape and the process will just be slower to improve.  I don’t know.

I made this run today in the San Joaquin Valley, Lemoore, Ca, Naval Air Station.  I thought that scratchy feeling in the back of my throat was due to the dry air, maybe elevation (not–only 3ooft).  After the run I was chatting with another runner (from Washington State) who informed me that the air quality was not good today.  I looked up the air quality and sure enough, it was almost in the ‘red’ zone.  Got me to thinking–the San Joaquin Valley is America’s fruit and vegetable basket; Land o Lakes butter is located there among other major corporations.  These plants and animals breathe this crap all day every day and then we eat it.  I have seen the ‘haze’ before but never stopped to think about what it is silently doing to us until I became a runner.  Be thankful where you live the air is clean and keep it that way.

Do or die tonight for our team!!!  I am a hockey fan from our years in Denver–saw the Avalanche win the Cup and from our years in Calgary–saw the Flames ALMOST win the cup.  Anyway, VS television is showing the game in about 5 minutes.  I watched the elite runners from the Boston Marathon on this channel.  My run was good this morning–humidity was high but the sun was not out.  I’ve got to get used to running in the heat and humidity sometime.  Bah

A beautiful STILL spring day in south central Texas.  Cool–about 55–and sunny.  My husband rode his bike and kept me company.  Now I am off to clean the pool and do some much needed yard work.  My daughter is out buying a prom dress and a graduation dress–ah, I remember those “senior” moments.  Hard to believe she turns 18 in less than two weeks.  As my dad always says, ‘how old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?’  Well, I wouldn’t be old enough to have a graduating child!!!

Okay, another horrible 25 mph day….so, turned on the HD and watched Discovery’s sunrise earth of a wild horse ranch in Wyoming (I used to live there) while I treadmilled away.  It was okay–I really played with the incline (am a little sore in my lower calves–remember we have no hills where I live) and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.  It was almost like running outside!

same old same old. wind blew yesterday and today and will tomorrow. must be due to global warming because it is never this windy here. lol. just like it is never this chilly this time of year. yeah, global warming….watched rachel ray while on the TM.  watched the pbs show online–pretty cool. reminds me of the book i read “the non-runner’s marathon trainer” which took a class at a university from sedentary to marathon and focused on the physical and psychological aspects. i also enjoyed the funny on ‘you know you are a runner if’–we are going to Peru this summer to hike the Amazon area and I was lamenting how it would get in way of my training!!! my daughter didn’t really appreciate that; it is her graduation trip!! oh well, i can run the trails…
