after a wonderful night at  my daughter’s high school graduation–family and friends hanging out til 1 am, i got up at 6 am to meet my group for a run.  i paired up with a woman who runs my pace.  our run was cut short because she fell on the trail.  busted her knees up pretty badly–she encouraged me to continue the run but i walked back to the parking lot with her and helped her get cleaned up.  besides, i was on a schedule to get back to prepare breakfast for my guests and graduate.  my life is at a milestone–a dramatic change is underway.  my daughter was so excited when they called her name that she daintily ran to the principal to receive her diploma and to shake his hand.  i have it on tape!!!

my first potty stop on a run!!!  luckily i was near a subdivision under construction and found a porta potty.  i don’t know what i would have done without it.  the blister wasn’t too bad.  i have a middle toe  that has a bit of arthritis and it rubbed a bit.  i ran at 6am–the sun hadn’t even come up when i set out.  believe it or not–the first 8 miles were a breeze (i couldn’t have said that a few weeks ago). after stopping for a few minutes to “go” the last 4 miles were a little forced.  just didn’t have my rhythm.

ran 8 x 800’s.  times were around 3:42 to 3:47.  did not finish the 8th one–i was feeling tightness in my hips.  never a soreness, just a tightness in the joint.  walked 1 minute between ’sprints’.  mapped out a route for thursday–12 miles.  wow.  my daughter graduates from high school on friday.  i am taking that day off–so much to do.  we took measurements the other day for dresses–my daughter is the same size as me–like looking in a mirror.  we are  both 5 ft 3 with our backs and waists and legs being the exact same measurements!  she has a smaller foot and thank god she has some hips–mine are only 33 inches!!

I tried to start out slow for the first half and speed up the second half.  I was running comfortably and did 3.2 in 26 minutes.  I tried to increase my foot turnover rate and accomplished 3.3 in 25 minutes.  That is all I’ve got.  Somewhere in me is a faster me and I will work towards that goal.

The group I joined is training with the Jeff Galloway program–run 4 walk 1 (sort of what I did yesterday for my speed work except they go way slower).  I paired up and took off.  It was nice to chat and carry on–the humidity was at 98%–who feels like running when the air is so thick you can barely breathe it?  We had a great time and I look forward to meeting with them once a week for the comraderie and encouragement.

I ran 6.5 miles outside then the wind picked up to about 18 mph so I came in to do some speed work on the treadmill.  Did 4, 4minute runs with 1 minute walk in between and it was about .6 miles for each 4 minutes.  Have a group run tomorrow–yes, I have joined a group.

been out of the loop a few days–legs were a little sore from the strength training last night but I put in a decent pace–I can always tell by seeing where I am when a certain song is over.

We had a death in the family and I had to take some time off to be with my husband and his siblings–they lost their father. not to mention the kids lost their grandfather. He was a world famous academic surgical scientist, so we had a lot of people coming in from all over the world to pay their last respects.  As soon as we returned home I did my strength training workout and got my husband to take the dog for a long walk on campus.  All is well and I felt very strong after doing nothing but eat and talk for four days.

that ended up being a little longer because I can’t add!  I marked out two routes that doubled back to my house so I could grab some water.  The weather was perfect–cool at about 68 and low humidity even though there was about a 10 mph wind.  But as it worked out for the most part, when I was running uphill the wind was at my back and downhill the wind was in my face.  The best part was, I ran the first half in 48 minutes and the second half in 46.  I am so pumped.  I am off to San Diego this weekend to see my BFF off on deployment.  I am hoping to fit in a run on the beach between other activities!

The sky was an eerie green this morning; then it turned black.  The rain was so thick you could have parted it with your hands.  Lightening forked across the sky…..so I had to run on the mill.  Cool part was, I watched a story on Travel Channel that had to do with the history of ice cream.  Yesterday I did some speed play.  Ran 4 800 yard sets with each set lasting 3:40 with a one minute walk in between.  Fun!!
