my first long run since holiday—i didn’t have my ipod charged even though i plugged it in the night before (it was on lock); i didn’t have the time on my watch cleared from the previous run (about 10 minutes in i discovered this, so my time is approximate); and i woke up too late to go through my “routine” so i felt out of sorts.  all in all, an ok run.

did my hill today.  first trip (2.4 miles) was 8:57.  second trip was 8:40 and third trip was 8:15.  on the third trip i used the galloway method.  run 4 minutes and walk 1.  so, i improved my time by one minute on my third trip up and down that hill.  i just had to prove it to my self.  tomorrow is my day off.  having been on holiday–i have a lot of yard work to do.  funny how weeds grow even though it hasn’t rained in about 5 weeks!!!

the heat and humidity factor has increased exponentially.  i am sopping wet by 3 miles–so, obviously there are alot of water breaks.  but, after a 10 days off, i do feel strong–especially on the hills–but i am taking good advice and am keeping the mileage low.

returned from the amazon sunday after an all night flight from iquitos to lima to houston.  did my first formal exercise in almost two weeks (some easy strength training).  ran this morning for a bit–don’t really know how much to push after having so much time off.  so, i will just get up and run some more tomorrow.

anyway–the amazon is an amazing experience.  we ate food i had never heard of, ate fruits that were amazing in taste and texture and we saw plants that had awesome medicinal powers (i even used the blossom of one of these plants to ease the chigger bites i got!!!–and i tried the one for deoderant which works beautifully!!) the people of the river are poor by our standards but they definitely enjoy the life they have.  we did a few jungle hikes and whenever presented with a massive climb of stairs i took them at a brisk pace. which left me standing at the top for many minutes by myself !!!lol i have included pictures of some of the wildlife we handled.  Our boat captain was friends with these villagers that allowed us to check out their stuff.sloth.JPGanaconda.JPGred-boa-constrictor.JPG
