i was stuck in canada for a few extra days due to hurricane ike and the closing of houston airports. a few flights came available so i flew home last night. did some strength training because i didn’t want to run in the humidity!!! (spoiled childe)

up early getting ready for the big trip tomorrow. had to haul feed to the horse barn before it got hot and ended up dealing with this new bull out in the pasture….i took him down….lol. hadn’t done my strength workout in ages–just been busy running–so my arms got sort of wobbly towards the end (guess it was from wrestling that darn bull…). we are taking school supplies to the indigenous villages of the Amazon river basin as we travel the river. my kids had a blast buying all the goodies to take. tomorrow i will do my long run–planning on 18 miles–then i will have 10 days off.

i hadn’t done any ’strength’ training for a while. doing good to run, cool off and get to work. i could feel my muscles quaking in their ‘boots’ so i took the advice of the massage therapist i have seen a couple of times and soaked in a hot tub of salts. we will see tomorrow how it helped. i have all this free time because my children flew to california to visit friends. they are out on the coast enjoying nice weather and good food–and they better be ‘making wise choices’–i always jokingly (and seriously) say that to them ever since we watched Freaky Friday years ago. they laugh and go on, but i tell ya—they have leaned on those words of wisdom and shared some of their wise choices with me. i’ve got such rational kids….

We had a death in the family and I had to take some time off to be with my husband and his siblings–they lost their father. not to mention the kids lost their grandfather. He was a world famous academic surgical scientist, so we had a lot of people coming in from all over the world to pay their last respects. As soon as we returned home I did my strength training workout and got my husband to take the dog for a long walk on campus. All is well and I felt very strong after doing nothing but eat and talk for four days.

hadn’t done this in a while due to traveling and extracurricular activities so got kind of tired. i always keep up with my running though.

i have never worked out this late before. had more energy than i thought i would especially after a day on my feet and driving.

Other commitments had me doing my strength training today instead of tomorrow. With school out I had to change my time from am to pm and it didn’t affect me at all. My lovely lady, Arwen, got to come home today. She is in a lot of pain and on meds (copperhead snake bites are very painful) but she is sleeping with her buddy, Pei-Pei. My vet belongs to a forum/blog of vets across the US and not one vet had heard of a ferret surviving a snake bite. Arwen is a celebrity–vets are tracking her progress/updates. Her wounds are huge–this was a big ass snake and she only weighs 1.1lbs. We are waiting for her albumin levels to elevate and then she should be in the clear. On a lighter note, I made the best soup (asparagus, mushroom and potato) for supper.

My arms were sore from shooting yesterday, but worked through it. Endurance through reps is increasing–light weight (3-8lb) I have been reading up on nutrition–I’m not much of an eater. I need to increase my caloric intake and eat more protein. Grocery store here I come. I am so looking forward to my run tomorrow.
